“Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race”
H G Wells
Cycling as a mode of travel is going through something of a resurgence , so now is a great time to give it a go.
Hillside Gardens is well located to encourage journeys by bike. Good off-road cycle infrastructure is in place for most of the route between Hillside Gardens and important destinations such as the Exeter Business Park and Exeter City Centre.
From the site entrance there are off road cycle facilities to the local shops, schools and businesses, and there is virtually off-road cycle facilities all the way from the site to the centre of Exeter. A cycle ride to the city centre will take around 25 minutes.

To get started all you need is a bike and to know how to ride. For those who have not ridden recently, or lack confidence, Devon County Council offers free, two hour, one-to-one confidence sessions for adults. For details visit new.devon.gov.uk.
You do not need any specialist clothing or shoes, although it is a good idea to dress in light coloured clothing so that drivers can see you more clearly. Lights are essential, particularly for commuters travelling in the winter months when it can be dark at both ends of a working day. Whether you buy other equipment, such as a helmet, hi-visibility clothing or panniers is a personal choice. So it is good to research some of the pros and cons before making a decision.
